The Friday Diversion – Week XII

Derek Loux sings the Acronym Song to the IHOP-KC staff. (Please note that this is all in good fun — IHOP is famous for their acronyms).

UPDATE Dec. 2009:

Derek Loux was killed in an auto accident this month. He was the father of 10 children, several of which are adopted. If you would like to assist the family, they are asking for donations to their adoption ministry, The Josiah Fund.

The Friday Diversion – Week VII

I am a Mac user. I have been for about 4 years and I love it. In turn, I love Apple’s “Get a Mac” ad campaign. Here’s my favorite one:

John Hodgman, the “PC Guy,” is quite funny in real life. Listen to him talk about his sudden fame on This American Life (click on “Full Episode.” His segment starts at 8:00 minutes).

The Friday Diversion – Week V

I had to re-take the Myers-Briggs Personality Test to figure out which one of these is me. I’m an ISFJ and, well, it fits me.

Prayers for Myers Briggs Types

ISTJ: Lord help me to relax about insignificant details beginning tomorrow at 11:41.23 am e.s.t.

ISTP: God help me to consider people’s feelings, even if most of them ARE hypersensitive.

ESTP: God help me to take responsibility for my own actions, even though they’re usually NOT my fault.

ESTJ: God, help me to not try to RUN everything. But, if You need some help, just ask.

ISFJ: Lord, help me to be more laid back and help me to do it EXACTLY right.

ISFP: Lord, help me to stand up for my rights (if you don’t mind my asking).

ESFP: God help me to take things more seriously, especially parties and dancing.

ESFJ: God give me patience, and I mean right NOW.

INFJ: Lord help me not be a perfectionist. (did I spell that correctly?)

INFP: God, help me to finish everything I sta

ENFP: God, help me to keep my mind on one th-Look a bird-ing at a time.

ENFJ: God help me to do only what I can and trust you for the rest. Do you mind putting that in writing?

INTJ: Lord keep me open to others’ ideas, WRONG though they may be.

INTP: Lord help me be less independent, but let me do it my way.

ENTP: Lord help me follow established procedures today. On second thought, I’ll settle for a few minutes.

ENTJ: Lord, help me slow downandnotrushthroughwhatIdo.

Amen.

The Friday Diversion – Week IV

We have a funny custom in prayer rooms. As soon as you walk in to one, you will notice random people pacing between or beside rows of chairs. Some people find pacers distracting, although it’s one of the things about a prayer room that you get used to pretty quickly.

The question is — why?

  • Some people pace because they’re really into the prayer meeting
  • Some people (myself included) pace to stay focused
  • Some of us just need a break from sitting since we are in the prayer room for 6-8 hours at a time
  • Sometimes it’s simply to stay awake
  • I’ve heard some people pace because they’re bored and it makes time pass
  • Every once in a while, there will be a pacer who is just pacing to look spiritual and attract attention

Contrary to popular belief, pacers are no more spiritual than those sitting in the chairs. In fact, their reasons are usually quite practical. It’s just the way of a prayer room.

The Friday Diversion – Week II

Like I said last week (I’m still taking answers to my question, by the way!), I will try to keep these prayer room related even though they are small insignificant things.

I don’t have any deep — or not deep — questions for you today, just pictures of my new haircut.

My sad hair

My hair all prettified (doesn’t Katie work wonders?)

UPDATE: Josiah says he can’t tell the difference. Ach, oh well. I can tell.

The Friday Diversion – Week I

I want to start posting little humorous/weird things periodically that I think will entertain you, my audience. Thus I thought up “the Friday Diversion.” I’m planning on keeping them prayer room-related; we’ll see how it goes.

So for this first week, I have a question for everyone (humor me, my silent readers, and comment!).

How do you chose what to highlight in your Bible?

See, I thought most people were like me: I highlight whenever something jumps out at me. That means that pretty much every verse in my Bible that I find profound, worthy of being called “favorite,” or simply touches me — is highlighted. This means that there’s a lot of color in my Bible, but I love it because I can find things so easily. Personally, I prefer colored pencils and I have a key in the back for which colors mean what.

I’m posting this because I asked Josiah the other day why he highlights and he said he only highlights verses he has revelation on. And…he’s the only person I’ve ever asked until now.
